Shaker Sister's Photograph, Anna White, leader and eldress of the North Family, Mt. Lebanon New York Community, c. 1885, she is seated in a rocking armchair, holding a letter and reading glasses, her knitting in a basket on a carpeted step stool at her side, a gingerbread calendar clock hangs on the wall behind her, matted and framed, 13 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. N.B. Two labels, attached to the back, tell of her work for world peace and women's rights. Provenance: Richard Rydell; Avis H. Howells Collection.
