Attributed to Milton William Hopkins (American, 1789-1844) Little Girl in a Salmon Pink Dress with Coral Necklace Holding a Glass Bowl of Fruit. Unsigned. Oil on canvas mattress ticking, 29 1/4 x 23 1/4 in., framed. Condition: Scattered retouch, varnish inconsistencies, minor losses, craquelure. N.B. In 1982 during the preparation for a Noah North exhibit, the discovery of a portrait almost identical to his work was found bearing the signature "M.W. Hopkins." Subsequent research established the identity of Milton William Hopkins (1789-1844), who lived near Noah North (1809-1880) and had such a similar style that Hopkins' work had been credited to North. North and M. W. Hopkins both painted folk portraits in a plain linear style with decorative details.
