Silk and Watercolor Coffin Family Needlework Memorial, Edgartown, Massachusetts, c. 1805-10, the figure of a grieving woman holds a garland over a sarcophagus bearing the names of Coffin family members, the first of whom, James, died November, 1797, the monument is shadowed by a willow tree and poplar trees against a painted blue sly, in a gilded gesso frame, (imperfections), ht. 19 1/2, wd. 17 1/2 in.
