Three Historic Yellow Glazed Transfer Decorated Staffordshire Child's Mugs, England, early 19th century, two having oval portraits of "LA FAYETTE" and "WASHINGTON" wreathed in olive leaves and suspended beneath an American eagle holding an inscribed ribbon in its beak, one with black transfer printing, the other with red transfer printing; the third centered with an American eagle, inscribed above, "A PRESENT FOR MY DEAR GIRL," and in a banner below, "MAY SUCCESS ATTEND OUR AGRICULTURE TRADE AND MANUFACTURES," brown transfer printed with a band of pink lustre decoration at the upper and lower rims and handle, (imperfections), ht. 2 1/2, 2 5/8, 2 1/8 in., respectively. Provenance: The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, Edward and Bertha Rose Collection of Ceramics. Sold to benefit the acquisition fund.
