Antonio Jacobsen (American, 1850-1921) Yachting Signed and dated "Antonio Jacobsen 1874" l. r. Gouache on paper, 9 1/2 x 14 1/4 in. (24.2 x 36.2 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle toning, minor wear to upper edge, not examined out of frame. N.B. Antonio Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1850. He studied at the Royal Academy there until 1871, when the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War forced him to immigrate to the United States to avoid enlisting. He settled in New York City and eventually set up a studio in Hoboken, New Jersey. Jacobsen is considered one of the finest of American marine artists.
