After a disagreement with his parents over his choice to pursue a career in the arts, Anthony Thieme moved out on his own at the age of seventeen. After traveling and working in Europe for a few years, Thieme moved to the United States and eventually settled in Rockport. It was there that he set up the Thieme School of Art and subsequently became one of the area's most prolific painters.
