Enoch Wood Perry, (American, 1831-1915), Portrait of William Dowd. Signed m.l., N.A. and dated 1899. Oil on canvas, 27 1/2x 22 1/2, in gilt gesso frame. Provenance: William Dowd 1824-1899. President and Director of the Bank of North America until 1899, the Hannible & St. Joseph and the Louisville, Albany & Chicago Railroads 1877-1883. New York City Mayoral candidate losing to Wm. R. Grace in 1880. Commissioner for the New York aquaduct 1883 as well as serving a variety of other New York civic and private institutions. Descended through the family.
