Dark Stained Ladder-back Rocking Armchair, Massachusetts, 17th century, the turned finials above four slats, turned stiles, shaped arms, and turned front posts ending in later rockers, (losses to top slat and rush seat, other surface imperfections), ht. 50 1/2, seat ht. 17 in. Provenance: According to family history, this Myles Standish chair was handed down in the family and was recently on display at the Duxbury Rural and Historic Society, 1998-2003. Note: Notes from the Museum of Fine Arts staff regarding this 17th century chair and a framed newspaper article accompany the lot.
