Silk Needlework and Watercolor Memorial, "Wrought by Maria Smith," Boston, early 19th century, the picture centered with a large monument surrounded by a grieving family, the tablet inscribed "Sacred To the Memory of Mrs. Mary Smith consort of Silvanus Smith who died Sept. 25th AD 1813. Age 39 years 6 months and 6 days, Blessed are the dead, Who die in the Lord," flanked by various trees and foliage, a gravestone in the distance inscribed, "To the memory of Daniel To--y Who departed this life Jan.28th AD 1815- in the 80th year of his age," worked in solidly stitched silk and chenille threads, watercolor and gouache painted facial features, background sky, and some trees, eglomise mat with gilt lettering "WROUGHT BY MARIA SMITH," gilt gesso frame, (tears, losses, toning), 25 x 29 1/2 in.
