Carved Wooden Curlew Shorebird Decoy, by Chris Sprague (1888-1982), Beach Haven, New Jersey, 1974, the bird with glass eyes, signed "Chris Sprague 1974," and carved or impressed initials "CS," (repaired bill, small loss), ht. 5 3/4, lg. 16 3/8 in. Note: Accompanying the bird is a photo of the carver Chris Sprague, given to the owner when he purchased the decoy and is signed on the reverse. Sprague's work can be seen at the Decoy and Baymen's Museum in Tuckerton, New Jersey, and the Shelburne Museum in Vermont.
