Grained Painted Spirit Chest, Probably England, late 18th century, the square box with hinged top opening to a painted paper-lined compartmented interior housing seventeen wheel etched and gilt decorated bottles in a variety of shapes, (imperfections), ht. 12 1/2, wd. 15, dp. 15 in. Provenance: Family descent from sea captain Nathaniel Kinsman, Salem, Massachusetts, who was involved in the China Trade; see lot 60.
