World Cruise Collection of Underwood & Underwood Boxed Sets, dated 1910, comprising Our Cruise Around The World (92 and 36)Italy (100) with book and map, Egypt (100) with book and map, India (100) with book and map, China (100), Japan (100+), Ceylon (30), Java (36), Burma (50), and Philippine Islands (50), with two stereoscopes and the original receipt from Underwood listing the above. Provenance: George Stone, Wollaston, Massachusetts, thence by descent. This collection follows a Clark Tour made on the S. S. President Cleveland by Mr. and Mrs Stone in 1909. The receipt, dated March 1910, gives the price for the collection at $140. The only anomalies between the receipt and the collection appear to be a missing half-set of Philippines views (the receipt says 100), two missing Our Cruise views (which may in fact be the extras in the Japan set) and one missing stereoscope. Otherwise the collection is in excellent condition and remarkably complete.
