Art Nouveau 18kt Gold and Diamond Earpendants, each designed as a catkin composed of flexibly-set rose-cut diamonds, freshwater pearl accents, signed Vever, fitted box, (three small rose-cut diamonds missing). Note: Henri Vever (1854-1942), author of "La Bijouterie Francaise aux XIX Siecle (lot ____ in this auction) was a highly acclaimed jeweler working during the Third Empire and Art Nouveau periods. In 1884, Henri and his brother Paul assumed control of the family business, founded by their grandfather in 1821. Under their direction, Maison Vever became known for its avant-garde jewels. They employed a number of the day's finest artisans, including L. Gautrait, the engraver, Eugene Grasset, the designer, and Tourette, the enamelist, .
