American School, late 19th/ early 20th century. "The Shipwreck", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Painting depicts a moonlit ocean scene just off shore with a large shipwreck seated to left on a sandbar listing to the left as water trails off its side and waves crash against it, with two sailing ships to background at right and others scattered along the horizon line, with looming, gray clouded skies above with full moon just left of center peeking out above a cloud. Framed approximately 24.25" x 32.5", unframed approximately 18" x 26".
