Federal Mahogany and Cherry Inlaid Slant-lid Desk, possibly Worcester County, Massachusetts, c. 1800, the case with thumbmolded lid centering an inlaid satinwood diamond panel bordered by rosewood crossbanding and stringing opens to an interior of eight drawers and seven valanced compartments above a swelled case of four graduated cockbeaded drawers bordered by crossbanding on inlaid base and flaring French feet, replaced brasses, old refinish, (minor imperfections), ht. 44, wd. 38 3/4, dp. 21 in. Provenance: By descent from the Sawyer families of Hudson and Bolton, Massachusetts. Note: Chalk inscriptions.
