Needlework Sampler, "Arianna H. Coles work done in the ninth year of her age," possibly Pennsylvania, c. 1820, silk threads on a linen ground with three floral bordered reserves with stitched lettering containing a pious verse, Arianna's signature, and "An Emblem of industry" over a bird perched over large blossoms flanked by trees, dogs, and birds, enclosed on three sides by a meandering flowering vine, (minor toning), 18 x 13 1/2 in., mounted in a mahogany veneer frame with bull's-eye corner blocks.
