Wool and Cotton Summer and Winter Coverlet, attributed to "Weaver Rose," Exeter, Rhode Island, probably late 19th century, two-piece double weave coverlet with alternating horizontal rows of geometric designs with modified pine tree borders on three sides, one end fringed, the initials of the owner "BLT" are embroidered on one corner, (minor toning, small loss of fringe, minor light stains), 87 x 74. Note: William Henry Harrison Rose (1841-1913) and his sister Elsie Maria Babcock Rose (1837-1926) were fourth generation Rhode Island weavers combining both farming and weaving. In 1912 they organized local weavers to form The Colonial Weavers Association to promote weaving as an art as well as a craft.
