J. A.F. Advertising Automaton, with papier-mache head and hands, articulated green glass eyes and mohair wig, on walnut base containing the electric motor causing the figure to turn his head and blink, raise each arm separately and then both together in a smooth and continuous motion, in original suit and tie, ht. 31 in., with plaque JAF, 100 Bd. Pereire, Paris , four movements, wired for 120 volt. Provenance: Sold in Mechanical Music at Phillips, Knowle, October 1999. The automaton was discovered in a watch repairer's shop in London, where he had been attracting customers to their window display for many years. J.A.F. (Jouets et Automates Francaises) took over the Vichy / Triboulet firm in 1923.
