Ship Diorama of the Seven-Mast Steel Schooner T. W. Lawson, Thomaston, Maine, America, early to mid-20th century, the diorama with carved wooden hull, sails, masts, and accoutrements, mounted in a deep mitered wood frame with painted putty sea and painted background and sky, 13 3/4 x 24 in. Note: The Thomas W. Lawson was launched in 1902 by the Fore River Ship -building Company at Quincy, Massachusetts, and was the only seven-mast schooner ever built. She made several coastal trips between Philadelphia and Texas but was lost in 1907 and ended up anchored off the Scilly Islands on the English coast waiting out a storm. There, she capsized during the night and all hands were lost but one.
