Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (German, founded 1823), circa 1903. A silver plated nickel metal figural cork stand with two standing figures (one on top of each cork or bottle stopper) depicting the fictional and humorous German characters of Max and Moritz (created by Wilhelm Busch, circa 1865). Corks supported on fitted stand with four splayed legs, pierced skirt and rounded ring at top framing figures. Monogrammed with "C.N." on collar of each stopper and on center of stand. Marked on side of stand and back of each stopper with WMF diamond form maker's mark and I/O for silver-plating. Approximate height 6", width 5", depth 5.4". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
