American School, 20th Century Portrait Relief/ Enrico Caruso 1920 Identified within the composition (in English and Hebrew), stamped "GORHAM FOUNDERS" along the edge. Bronze with brown patina, 11 3/4 x 9 1/2 in. (29.8 x 24.1 cm). Condition: Good. N.B. Enrico Caruso (1873-1921) was one of most famous Italian tenors. He first went to New York in 1903 and debuted at the Metropolitan Opera. Caruso would come to perform with the Met for the remainder of his career. His last performance there was on December 24, 1920 as Eleazer in La Juive by Fromental Halevy. La Juive , which translates to the Jewess, is a love story of a Christian man and Jewish woman. The libretto for the opera was written by Eugene Scribe.
