Watercolor Memorial Picture, executed by "Mary F. Patten.", Topsham, Maine, c. 1816, urn-topped monuments inscribed "Sacred I'll keep thy dear Remains In Memory of a Beloved Mother/Catherine Patten Obit June 1. A.D. 1816. AE 50 years," and "Sacred I'll keep thy dear Remains In Memory of a beloved Brother/Thomas Patten Obit. Dec 6. A.D. 1816. AE 6 years & 6 months," gilt eglomise signature below, 18 x 21 in a molded giltwood frame. Condition: Toning, repaired tears, u.c. and l.c. Note: Genealogical records and information inscribed on the reverse indicate Catherine (Fulton) Patten was the first wife of Captain Thomas Patten (b. February 10, 1761, d. May 25, 1841), both of Topsham, Maine. They were married March 1, 1787. They had eleven children, two who died in infancy. Mary F. Patten, the artist, was their ninth child, born March 23 1804. She died April 30, 1823, at the age of nineteen. Catherine and Thomas Means Patten are buried in the First Parish Cemetery, Topsham, Sagadahoc County, Maine.
