Alexander Blazys (Russian-American, 1864-1963) Plaster sculpture Cleveland, Ohio, 1932 Winged figure, ht. 27 1/4, wd. 25 1/2 in. Alexander Blazys came from Russia to Paris, New York, then to Cleveland in the early to mid 1920s. His father was a member of the Old Imperial Army in Russia. Blazys studied under Russian masters from 1913-1917, and practiced art all through the revolution. He became a faculty member at the Cleveland School of Art, head of the department of sculpture until 1937. His sculpture is in the collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art and other museums and private collections. This work is accompanied by an article depicting this sculpture from a Cleveland newspaper, December 1932.
