Laura Coombs Hills (American, 1859-1952) Portrait of a Child, Purportedly Augustus Hemenway of Canton, Massachusetts Signed "Laura Hills" l. r. Watercolor possibly on ivory, oval format, sight size 5 3/4 x 4 1/4 in. (14.6 x 10.8 cm), framed. Condition: Mild toning, extremely light scattered soiling, mild wear to surface. N.B.Augustus Hemenway was the son of Augustus and Harriet Lawrence Hemenway. Augustus (senior) was a prominent philanthropist, giving to the town of Canton and to Harvard University. Harriet was the founder of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. She was purportedly painted by John Singer Sargent in 1890.
