Classical Mahogany Carved and Rosewood and Brass Inlaid Gaming Table, probably New York, c. 1815-25, the folding D-shaped top with crossbanded border on a conformingly shaped skirt centering a satinwood and rosewood panel and crossbanded lower edge, on a lyre-form acanthus leaf-carved support above an inlaid panel centered on a shaped platform resting on acanthus leaf scroll-carved legs continuing to claw feet, and flanked at the rear by turned supports on square plinths and vase and ring-turned legs, all embellished with inlaid brass stars, rosettes and stringing, (imperfections), ht. 30, wd. 36, dp. 17 3/4 in. Note: Tag found in interior compartment inscribed: "...255 Henry Street/II Mahg. Card Tables/ with Lyre Shaped/ Front Pieces." Provenance: Sold to benefit the Brooklyn Museum.
