Paint-decorated Marriage Trunk, probably New York, early 19th century, the lift top with an applied beaded edge and nail-constructed box with applied incised base, original yellow painted surface with brown freehand designs, (minor imperfections), ht. 10 1/2, wd. 21, dp. 10 1/2 in. Provenance: Hester and Paul Foster, who purportedly traveled from New York in the mid-19th century to Michigan. The back of the trunk is painted with their initials "HF" and "PF."
