William Herbert (Buck) Dunton (American, 1878-1936) Decorative Landscape, Aspen No. 3 Signed "Dunton" l.l., titled on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 7 3/4 x 4 3/4 in. (19.6 x 12.0 cm), framed (under glass). Condition: Good. Provenance: Descended within the family of the present owner. N.B. As a teenager Dunton sold sketches to newspapers in Lewiston and Bangor, Maine, and to the Boston Globe. Although he began his artistic studies in Boston, at the age of 18 he headed west to Montana, and his westward trips were repeated often and ranged widely. By 1912 he had a studio in Taos, and became a full-time resident there in 1921. He was one of the earliest members of the Taos Society of Artists.
