Framed Illustration Given on the Occasion of Marriage, Monson, Maine, "For Miss Harmony B. Merritt...Monson March 13th 1841. A present from Torrey aged 76," watercolor and ink on paper depicting a couple holding hands, an angel blowing a trumpet accompanied by the inscription: "A Female Angel with her trump is here presented, to guard the name of Harmony B. Merritt.," with the words "Respect" and "Love" embellished with scrolled foliage, billing doves, and flower blossoms, 21 3/4 x 17 1/4 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor toning, foxing, minor stains, light creases. Provenance: Found rolled up in an attic and purchased from Hazel and Joe Marcus, Union, Maine.
