Frank Hector Tompkins (American, 1847-1922) Women in Art Class. Signed and dated "F.H. Tomkins 96" l.r. Oil on canvas, 13 1/2 x 17 3/4 in., in a period gilt gesso frame. Condition: Very good. Note: Frank Hector Tompkins was born in Hector, New York, in 1847. He studied in New York and at the Cincinnati School of Design, and exhibited works at the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. His works are held in public and private collections including at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The art class depicted may well be the Boston Art Club.
