Hermann Herzog (German/American, 1832-1932) Near the Outlet of Wassalassa River Signed "H. Herzog" l.r., title inscribed/incised on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 20 x 16 in. (50.8 x 40.6 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, (reinforced) tears, punctures, small losses. N.B. Herzog immigrated to the United States in 1869 and traveled extensively throughout the country over the course of his career. He is best known for his realist landscapes that reflect the rich variety of the American landscape. Herzog began visiting Florida in the 1880s and his landscapes capture the untouched vibrant color and bright, atmospheric light of the area.
