18kt Gold Earrings, Otto Jakob, each hinged round hoop with ribbed scrolling motifs, dia. 7/8 in., signed. Note: Too proud to seek a technical education, Otto Jakob began teaching himself the art of goldsmithing through Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance treatises at the age of seventeen. His use of gemstones and enamels shows the importance of color in his high quality work. Nature also plays a dominant role for Jakob, as well as his love of microcosms "because they contain secret messages which are waiting to be deciphered by eagle eyes, situated in different places in our world."
