Artist Designed 24kt and 18kt Gold and Enamel Scarab Necklace, Janiye, the necklace composed of shaped links and beads with geometric cloisonne enamel designs suspending a Ptolemaic faience scarab, competed by a scarab clasp, lg. 2 3/4 and 20 3/4 in., signed Janiye and Miye, with copy of original receipt. Note: Miye Matsukata (b. Tokyo, 1922-1981), a jewelry designer and goldsmith, was a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She traveled on scholarship to study in Egypt and Scandinavia before opening her store on Newbury Street in Boston in 1950. Matsukata incorporated elements of ancient and exotic cultures into her work.
