Empire Paper-covered Card Sewing Box, 1840s, in the form of a working slant-front desk with two drawers flanked by columns, brass pulls and removable top-section with velvet pincushion concealing a needle compartment below, covered in blue, green, and rose ombre striped paper of overlying flocked leaf design, accented with gold Dresden paper borders, rosettes and female classical profile in relief, on ebonized turned wood feet, ht. 7 x wd. 5 5/8 x 4 1/2 in., (very minor edge wear, otherwise bright original condition).
