Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) Birmingham Race Riot , from TEN WORKS + TEN PAINTERS , 1964, edition of 500 plus proofs, published by the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford (Feldman & Schellmann, II. 3). Unsigned, numbered "13/500" on the colophon, Ives-Sillman, New Haven dry stamp l.r., Fogg Art Museum duplicate and other stamps on the reverse. Screenprint on paper, image/sheet 20 x 24 in. (50.8 x 60.7 cm), matted and with the original portfolio box and colophon pages, unframed. Condition: Subtle surface rubs (some with gentle soiling), unobtrusive wear to box. Provenance: Property of the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard Art Museum, sold to benefit the acquisition fund. The rubs are visible only from certain angles and effect only the sheen of the ink.
