Daniel O'Neill (Irish, 1920-1974) Landscape with Figure Signed "D O'NEILL" l. r., identified on labels from the Vincent Price Collection, the Vincent Price Gallery of Fine Art, and The Dawson Gallery, Dublin, (see below) affixed to the reverse. Oil on Masonite, 18 x 24 in. (45.7 x 61.0 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch/varnish inconsistencies, craquelure, surface grime. Provenance: The Dawson Gallery, 1963. N.B. Daniel O'Neill was one of Ireland's principal Romantic painters and his work plays an important role in Post World War II Irish art. He took classes at the Belfast College of Art and worked in Sidney Smith's studio. He lived with his family in an artist's colony in Conlig after visiting Paris for a short time and eventually moved to London. His work is marked by a simple, yet mysterious, quality. Craquelure predominant to the sky area, no additional condition issues to report.
