Angel Botello (Puerto Rican, 1913-1986) Red Chair , c. 1965 Signed "Botello" l.r., inscribed "No. 564" on the reverse. Oil on Masonite, 48 x 28 in. (121.9 x 71.1 cm), framed. Condition: Surface grime. N.B. We wish to thank Juan Botello for his assistance in cataloging this lot. Spanish-born artist, Angel Botello spent the majority of his career living and working in the Caribbean. After the Spanish Civil War, Botello moved to the Dominican Republic where he was warmly received by the Caribbean art world as well as exiled Spanish artists. He worked in Puerto Rico, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, where he was influenced by both the visual elements and spirituality of island life. Provenance: Private New England Collection. The work might benefit from a gentle cleaning. Otherwise there are no visible condition issues to report.
