Ogata Gekko (1859-1920): Japan, c. 1891, Scene of the Aftermath of the Gifu Earthquake of 1891, ink and colors on silk, signed and with seal, (fine color and condition), framed. Note: Gekko was mainly a journalistic and narrative painter-printmaker of war triptychs, illustrations for novels, and depictions of historical and legendary subjects. Though his prints are relatively common, his paintings are rare.
