Copper Banner Weather Vane, America, early 19th century, the vane with spire finial with medial sphere over a molded arrow, the body with molded and cut-out scrolls and sunburst tail, verdigris surface under yellow weathered sizing and traces of gilt, including cast iron directionals and iron sphere, and lead roof attachment, ht. (without directionals) 43, lg. 49 1/2 in. Provenance: From the E.B. Atwood Livery Stable on Union St. in Plymouth, Massachusetts, now Plymouth Marina. The Atwood lumber company was located next to the livery stable, now the Plymouth yacht club. A copy of a photo showing the weathervane en situ and hand-written provenance from the consignor is availiable. The sphere has some dents, the sunburst tail probably had a boss applied to it, now gone, that area now has verdigris surface.
