Engraved Whale's Tooth, 19th century, the obverse depicting a ship below a star, a bird, American shield and arrows and swagged and tasseled drapery, the reverse with a scene of a speadwing eagle over sailor on the deck of a vessel at sea with a distant ship above the inscription" The Middy Of the Macedonian" and "WANDERER," (age cracks, small chip on tip), lg. 5 3/4 in. Note: The USS Macedonian , formerly the HMS Macedonian of the Royal Navy, was a 38-gun sailing frigate, captured by Stephen Decatur in the War of 1812. It was rebuilt and placed in service in the United States Navy in 1836. Obverse- 1/2 in. dia shallow chip at tip, 1/2 in. dia. shallow chip at base edge; small cracks near tip and base edge; reverse- crack along center of lg., two small age cracks near tip.
