Mahogany Empire Shelf Clock by Sylvester Clarke, Salem Bridge, Connecticut, c. 1830, line inlay decorated case with three-quarter figured maple columns, glazed door with painted tablet depicting an old house, painted wooden Roman dial, printed maker's label inside backboard stating [S]. Clarke'[s] Improved Brass Clocks, Warranted if Well Used Salem Bridge Conn, eight-day brass compound hung weight-powered time and alarm movement, ht. 24 in. Reverse painted tablet is a replacement, main arbor on alarm train is present, but no other related gearing or levers.
