T. Defrees (American, fl. 1878-1887) Venice-Morning, Doges Palace, Domes and Tower of St. Marks in the Middle Distance Signed and dated "TDefrees.1882.3." l.l., titled, signed, dated and inscribed "...by T Defrees. 1881.3., from sketch from nature." on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 22 x 36 in. (55.9 x 91.4 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, mild scattered craquelure, surface grime. There is a small patched repair l.l. plus another without a patch u.l. There are several areas of retouch approximately the size of a silver dollar (these include the two repairs). The craquelure is stable. The painting might benefit from cleaning.
