John Cresson Trautwine (Philadelphia, 1810-1883) Unfinished Sketch for a Country Residence . Signed l.r., titled l.l. Watercolor and gouache on paper, 11 x 14 in., in a molded wood frame. Condition: Paper backed with linen, minor toning. Note: John C. Trautwine of Philadelphia was an engineer, architect, and author. He was an engineer on several railways, and a consultant on numerous canal projects in North and South America. Among his published works is The Civil Engineers Pocketbook , which was long known as the "engineer's bible."
