Commander Perry Commemorative Snuff Box, England, c. 1815, lacquered papier-mâché snuff box made for the American market, the cover showing a lithographed scene and inscription "Com. PERRY Capturing the Whole of the British fleet on Lake Erie, Sept. 10, 1813," the reverse depicting the Great Seal of the United States above inscriptions written by O.H. Perry to "The Hon. William Jones, Secretary of the Navy," proclaiming victory "after a sharp conflict," (minor wear), dia. 3 3/4 in. Small areas of wear and surface scratches, small abrasion on lower bottom edge of box.
