Cast Iron and Carved Wooden Ship's Corbel, probably England, 19th century, carved scrolled corbel with applied painted cast iron acanthus leaves, the sides applied with conforming cast iron scroll panels with floral and foliate designs in relief, (remnant of paint on foliage), ht. 22 1/2, wd. 7 1/2, dp. 8 1/2 in. The cast iron acanthus leaves with several layers of colors of paint, the top surface being gold-colored. The paint worn in areas so it appears to be multicolored, but it is the underlayers of paint showing through.
