Rudolf Epp (German, 1834-1910) At Home Signed "R. Epp" l.r. Oil on canvas, 34 x 26 in. (86.4 x 66.0 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, scattered surface abrasions, retouch. N.B. Rudolph Epp was born in Eberbach, Germany, and studied with Ludwig des Coudres at the Carlsrube Art School before settling in Munich in 1865. He is best known for his genre scenes of domestic life. The lining is adhered with resin or glue, and was done in the late 1970s. the retouch is dashes and strokes scattered about the composition. These are broader and more prevalent to the right side and on the woman''s skirts. There is fine and stable craquelure.
