Painted Cast Iron Mechanical Owl Bank, manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Co., Cromwell, Connecticut, c. 1880, the bank activated by placing a coin on the top of the branch and pressing the thumb-piece on the back, turning the owl's head and depositing the coin into the bank, the figure with glass eyes, (paint loss, lacking base coin plug), ht. 7 1/2 in. mechanics, work, much of the paint on the owl is worn off.
