Carved Ivory and Polychrome Painted Paper Fan, China, late 18th/early 19th century, the fan with fourteen sticks and two guards of intricately carved ivory, with figures and flowers, the paper portion with pictorial reserves, cartouches and borders; the other side painted with scenes of courtly figures with applied cut-out painted ivory faces, in a lacquered rectangular wooden box with brass inlay, fan 11x 20, box 1 1/2 x 2 7/8 x 11 3/4 in.
