Sold for:
$14,100

Pewter Pint Mug, attributed to Robert Bonnynge, Boston, 17311763, tapered cylindrical form with everted lip, solid molded S-scroll handle with a moon-face terminal, on a molded base, likely owners initials "AF" impressed on handle top, (minor imperfections), ht. 4 3/8 in. Literature: A similar pint mug with moon-face handle terminal is illustrated and discussed in Pewter in American Life, by the Pewter Collectors Club of America, published by Mobray Company, p. 38. The paragraph states that "The handle mould for this mug apparently provided for changes to the design of the terminal ... Mugs with this handle, but (with) other terminal designs have been found with the Bonnynge Mark, and it seems probable that he made all of them." Another image of a similar unmarked mug attributed to Bonnynge is found in An American Pewter Collection: The Collection of Dr. Melvyn and Betty Wolf, plate 372.
