Edouard Marcel Sandoz (Swiss, 1881-1971) Fennec Assis / Bat Eared Fox Signed "Ed. M. Sandoz" l.c. inscribed "...Susse Frs Eds Paris" and stamped "BRONZE" l.l. Bronze with a brown patina, height 7 1/2 in. (19.1 cm). Condition: Repair to ear, wax (or similar substance) applied to the surface. N.B. In his unique approach to sculpture, Sandoz blended elements from Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. He worked in a variety of mediums, and is best known for his renderings of animals. Born in Switzerland, Sandoz studied at the Ecole de Industrial Arts in Geneva. By 1908 he had settled in Paris and attended the Ecole d'Beaux-Arts. Sandoz founded the French Society of Animalists in 1933.
