Arrianus, Flavius (b. circa A.D. 96) and Hanno (fl. circa 500 B.C.), Periplus. Plutarchus. De fluminibus & Montibus. Strabo. Epitome , Basel: Froben, 1533, later boards, woodcut illustrations and initials, 4to, (marginal notations by old owner, light marginal water stain). Aureliensis 109.024; Adams A-2014; Hoffmann I, p. 378. Note: The Periplus by Hanno contains the account of the voyage of the Carthaginian navigator beyond the Pillars of Hercules and it has been suggested that this journey took them to the coasts of the Americas. In addition, it is the only description of any part of Africa south of the Sahara prior to the accounts of the Portuguese navigators in the 15th century.
